Corrections and removals

Businesses move, close and change hands, and BOBBY sometimes gets one wrong. Here is how to fix it.

If it is your business

Claim the listing and you can edit it yourself. Claiming proves you control the business — a code to an address at the business’s own domain is the quickest route — and it does not change the listing’s tier.

Once a listing is yours:

  • Everyday details go live immediately. Hours, phone number, address, description, photographs. Nobody stands between you and your own opening hours.
  • Changes to why the business is eligible wait for review. The ownership signal and its source are the claim the directory is built on, so a person reads those before they take effect.

Start from your dashboard, or find the business and use the “Is this your business?” prompt on its listing.

If it is not your business

Anyone can report a problem — a customer, a neighbour, a former owner, someone who noticed the shop is boarded up. Email [contact email] — not published yet with:

  • a link to the listing, or enough of the name and city to find it;
  • what is wrong, and what it should say instead;
  • anything that shows it, if you have it — a link, a photograph, a public record;
  • your relationship to the business, if any. “None, I just walked past” is a fine answer.

Asking for a listing to be removed

Removal is the right answer in several situations, and BOBBY does not argue about them:

  • the business has closed;
  • it is not Black-owned and should never have been listed;
  • the owner does not want to be in the directory;
  • the listing is a duplicate of another.

An owner asking to come out does not have to give a reason. BOBBY exists to send people to businesses that want to be found; a business that would rather not be listed is not a problem to be solved.

What happens next

A person reads it. Every decision — a correction applied, a listing taken down, a request refused — is recorded with who made it and when, so the history of a listing can be reconstructed later.

A removed listing stops appearing in the directory, in search and in the sitemap. The record that it existed and was removed is kept, because an audit trail that could be erased would not be worth keeping.

Reviews

BOBBY does not write reviews, buy them, or copy them from anywhere else, and a business with no reviews shows no rating rather than an invented one. A review that breaks the terms of use can be reported to the same address, and an owner who has claimed their listing can reply to a review publicly — replying never changes the review’s rating or a word of its text.

Your personal data

Requests about your own personal data — a copy of it, a correction, or deletion — are covered in the privacy notice, which also says what BOBBY holds and what it never holds.
